I was at the movies the other night to watch Gatsby with some girlfriends.
We were quietly chatting our way through the fifteen minutes of pre-movie ads, when this one came on. The conversation faltered as its magnetism drew us in. I made the comment that ‘there’s something about this ad that is just so me,’ and we watched in fascination as it unfolded. We tried to guess what it was for, and I got it: My state; my home.
I’ve always been proud to be Australian, and ads like this make me see why.

Yep, completely agree. I’ve seen it a couple of times since then and recruited a few other fans of it! Great for an ad, especially a SA ad!
Thanks for your comment. Glad you enjoyed it too. Just recently had a friend from work refer to it as ‘the intro to a horror movie.’ Not sure he was watching the same ad as us!
I am glad you explained it … It is beautifully made … I think I live a patriotically challenged life, maybe even somewhat schizophrenic … I grew up in Germany now live in the United States … one country quietly remembering her shameful history while the other proudly waves her flags at every opportunity … Thanks for sharing this piece of art 🙂 May we, who are the country now, live in ways that the next generation would gladly inherit what we leave behind!

I can imagine that would be difficult. I teach German and have been there a couple of times. It must be very challenging growing up in a country that is almost afraid to be patriotic. And you’re right, the US does seem very opposite to that.
Loved the ad! Never been to Australia, though I would like to. I’m afraid that most of the ads in the US tell us we’re only “lucky” is we drive the right car, wear the right clothes, or use the right deodorant. 🙂

Australia is great, try to make it here sometime if you can! I haven’t been to the US, but it’s on my travel list… at some stage!! You too live in a very blessed country.
Do you not have local tourism ads that showcase the best of certain regions? We have a lot of them!
After I replied, I did think of some travel ads for Michigan and Illinois, states to the north and west of Indiana. I don’t know how to put them on the blog, though.
Well if you can find them on youtube, you can just post the url into a comment. But if you can’t, (or can’t be bothered!!) I’ll just imagine that they are wonderful! 🙂
It’s terrible having a low-tech mind in a high-tech society! 🙂 My son-in-law and daughter are much more savvy in this. I’ll see what they can do.
