The Grace within The Passion

cross-and-sun_2196557Hi All,

This week I’m very honoured to be guest posting for Marlene over at Journey of Joy.

I’d love you to head over there and check out my post The Grace within The Passion which talks about one of my most vivid personal experiences of grace.

Check out some of Marlene’s own stuff too. I’m sure you’ll find it encouraging.

  1. Thank you for sharing! How wonderful to meditate on God’s amazing grace!

I admit, I haven’t seen the movie. We have such a sanitized view of the death of Christ, our bloodless icons, our partly clothed Christ, even still on the Cross though He rose from the dead. The original readers knew all about its horrors. Victims sometimes lingered for several days in unutterable agony. I’ve heard preachers recite the details of the scourging, the crucifixion, the suffering, with almost clinical dispassion. I can’t understand it. How can we think of our Savior, God manifest in the flesh, enduring WILLINGLY that indignity and suffering, to say nothing of momentary abandonment by the Father, without being melted and broken by the thought: this is what it took to save ME!

    Thank you for this reminder.

We do have such poor representations of the crucifixion normally. And you are so right. What a powerful reminder. He was not forced into it, he surrendered to it. Amazing how he could endure that knowing that at any second he could call down the armies of heaven to save him. THAT is love. Thank you for your thoughts!

Thanks for your willingness to do it! This paragraph did something amazing in me… “I walked out of that movie theatre, into the light of day; into a shopping centre where people continued with their lives as though the God of the universe had not just died for them. I walked away, and I continued to be a sinner, but I was a sinner covered by the grace of Jesus Christ”. God Great God!

    Thanks again!
